March 6- Planning Commission Public Hearing on SDUs

What: Secondary Dwelling Units Planning Commission Public Hearing
When: Tuesday, March 6th at 6:00pm
Where: Harris Hall, 125 E. 8th Ave.

The Eugene Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the City Staff's proposal to meet the state requirement (SB 1051) to allow each single-family dwelling to have a secondary dwelling unit (SDUs).  Let Planning Commission know what you think!

Staff's proposal does the bare minimum to address the question of SDUs in Eugene and does not address the major roadblocks that prevent owners of single family dwellings from creating homes for their family and neighbors. It does not resolve issues such as owner-occupancy requirements or unreasonable lot size minimums.  Such questions are postponed to an unscheduled phase two process.

Our community is asking for action on the housing crisis.  Cottage Code Amendments and full compliance with both the letter and spirit of SB 1051 are a first step to doing so.  The Planning Commission, City Council, and City Staff have an opportunity to show that they are taking this issue seriously.  Doing the bare minimum is not enough.

See WE CAN's assessment of code changes needed to address SB 1051.
