Demographics and Housing Options

Just because some millennials are moving to the 'burbs doesn't mean they like it

In recent years, young adults have shown a preference for living in city centers and walkable neighborhoods. Even though some recent evidence points to Millennials making a shift to more suburban lifestyles, this may not be because of a change in preference, but rather simply because they don't have options to live in walkable neighborhoods.

Surveys show that there are more people who want to live in a walkable urban area than can be accommodated by the current supply of walkable housing stock. That’s why prices are so high in the densest neighborhoods and cities.
